I wish I could elucidate why this story didn't gel for me, but I can't. All I know is that it didn't. My general feeling is that it's in need of some firm but gentle guidance through editing. There's a story there, and maybe a good one, but it's lost in a sea of repetition, red herrings, and ridiculousness (see: Poole, sudden character shift of).
